Nearly one year ago we were standing at the altar saying "I do" and over this year I have graduated from Lakehead University with my teaching degree, Mark and I have moved into our own home, survived renovations, and have taken on more responsibility on the home dairy farm. Whoa...the time has flown by!
Although a lot has happened over the past year as we near our first wedding anniversary we have asked ourselves, "what's next?". Teaching jobs in Ontario are few and far between these days and before we take on the full time job as dairy farm owners we wondered how we could combine my need to gain teaching experience with our hope to travel/experience something new.
With speaking to my sister-in-law, Rianna Sterk, I heard about teaching jobs available in Melbourne, Australia, because she also applied and with a few(by that I mean many) e-mails later, paper work, fingerprints, and discussions with Mark I was on my way to teaching in Australia.
After getting the job and making arrangements to leave were in order we were still a little hesitant to leaving but we know it'll be an experience of a lifetime. Mark intends to get a job on a dairy farm just outside the city of Melbourne. There are plently of dairy farms there so it will also be interesting to learn and see how they farm there.
Our plane heads out on July 17th at 10 am and after 5 hours of flying we will land in Los Angeles where we will stay a few nights at The Standard Hotel -Downtown Los Angeles to check out the sites and sounds of the hollywood city! After we stretch our legs for a few days we will fly another 15 hours to Melbourne, Australia where we I will meet with the teaching agency and begin my movement into the schools as a substitute teacher.
Mark's sister Rianna is also heading to Melbourne as a subsitute teacher. She will be living downtown Melbourne with a few girlfriends. We look forward to sharing teaching experiences together! We hope this blog will keep friends and family updated through pictures and you can follow us as we experience life down under for the next 10 months!
-Veronica Sterk
